Most of Darien's holiday calendar this year falls on three weekends: November 20 and 21, November 27, and December 4 and 5. Two of them start with something on Friday evening and continue into Saturday. The day after Thanksgiving fits a morning event and an evening event into a single Friday. On the busiest days, the events are staggered so one is already running or just closing when the next begins. Merry Meadowlands closes at 2 p.m. on December 5, and Darien Parks & Recreation opens Tilley Pond Park at 2 p.m. the same day. You can get to nearly every event if you plan around those handoffs. If you treat each event as a separate errand, you'll miss some of them.
Here is the season laid out by weekend, with addresses, so you can see where the handoffs fall.
| Weekend | Opening event | Next event | Closing event |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nov. 20–21 | Fri.: Nutcracker at Night, Darien Library, 6:30–8 p.m. | Sat.: Darien Nature Center Holiday Market, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. | Sat.: Pop Shop Holiday Market, Darien Commons, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. |
| Nov. 27 | Fri.: Overstuffed Turkey Trot, Darien High School trail, from 10 a.m. | Fri.: open afternoon | Fri.: Lit Tree Lane Stroll, Darien Library, 6:30–8 p.m. |
| Dec. 4–5 | Fri.: Holiday wreath workshop, Darien Arts Center, 7–9 p.m. | Sat.: Merry Meadowlands, 274 Middlesex Road, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. | Sat.: An Old Fashion Holiday and tree lighting, Tilley Pond Park, 2–5 p.m. |
November 21 Has Two Markets, and Their Hours Overlap
The first Saturday works a little differently from the last. The Darien Nature Center Holiday Market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 120 Brookside Road. It sells handcrafted, sustainable gifts from local artisans and crafters, along with food and face painting.
An hour after it opens, the Pop Shop Holiday Market at Darien Commons starts outside sweetgreen at 102 Heights Road. It runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free. Darien Commons describes it as part of a curated series of artisan markets with independent makers selling apparel, handmade jewelry, home décor, self-care products and gifts. The listing also points shoppers to the Commons' restaurants for lunch, dinner or something sweet afterward.
So the two markets share three hours, from 11 to 2. The Nature Center market closes at 2, and Heights Road keeps going until 5. If you start on Brookside Road in the morning and end at the Commons in the afternoon, you can eat at the Commons and won't feel rushed at either market.
The night before gives the weekend a calmer start. Darien Library has Connecticut Ballet's "Nutcracker at Night" on its calendar for Friday, November 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It's an evening event on the night before the season's first market day, and the December weekend follows the same pattern.
The Day After Thanksgiving Has an Event at Each End
Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26. The next morning, The Depot holds its 4th annual Overstuffed Turkey Trot on the Darien High School cross-country trail. The timed one-mile walk/run starts at 10 a.m. and the 5K walk/run at 10:30. Registration opened October 1, the Chamber listing shows $50, and all proceeds go to The Depot, Darien's youth center.
The listing says last year's trot drew more than 550 runners, with music, children's games and food. With a crowd that size, the early bib pickups are useful. They're at The Depot, 25 Heights Road, on Monday, November 23, from noon to 2 p.m., and on Tuesday, November 24, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Same-day pickup opens at 9 a.m. on race day.
The evening of the same day, Darien Library hosts its fourth annual Lit Tree Lane Stroll from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The library will be filled with holiday trees decorated by local artists and organizations, along with music and refreshments. Children can make a pipe cleaner wreath and do a one-night-only scavenger hunt, and you don't need to register. The trot is in the morning and the stroll is in the evening, so the day after Thanksgiving has an event at each end and a free afternoon in between. Families with relatives in town can plan a full day around that.
December 5 Is a True Handoff
The last Saturday is where the timing lines up exactly.
- Friday, December 4, 7–9 p.m. The Darien Arts Center's holiday wreath workshop is at 2 Renshaw Road, and the listing shows $85.
- Saturday, December 5, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. The Darien Community Association's Merry Meadowlands: A Holiday Home & Market returns at 274 Middlesex Road. The Meadowlands will be decorated for the season, and dozens of local retailers and vendors will have tables. Admission is free, and the event raises money for the nonprofit.
- Saturday, December 5, 2–5 p.m. Darien Parks & Recreation holds its annual An Old Fashion Holiday at Tilley Pond Park, 40 West Avenue. The free, all-ages afternoon includes cookie decorating, holiday crafts, an ice sculpture display and a holiday market. It ends with the lighting of the town's holiday tree.
Merry Meadowlands ends at the hour the Tilley Pond event begins. December 5 has two markets, just like November 21. This time they don't overlap at all, and the day ends with the tree lighting. A wreath made on Friday night can be hanging on the front door before you leave for Middlesex Road on Saturday morning.
The Weeknights Belong to Smaller Rooms
Most of the big events land on Friday evenings and Saturdays. The weeknights in between have smaller events that each serve one group.
- Wednesday, November 11: Barrett Bookstore's Fall Poetry Night, listed on the Corbin District events page.
- Thursday, November 12, 5:30–7 p.m.: The Darien Chamber's Holiday Networking Mixer & Annual Awards at Nielsen's Florist, 1405 Post Road.
- Wednesday, November 18: Barrett Bookstore's Publisher's Rep Night, also listed on the Corbin District events page.
Readers come to the bookstore nights. Local business owners come to the Chamber mixer at Nielsen's. None of the three competes with the weekends.
Downtown's Newest Storefronts Have No Dates Yet
The one part of the season that can't go on the calendar yet is the downtown storefronts. The Corbin District's announced fall 2026 lineup, as Moffly Media reported in March, includes these tenants:
- Dining: Chopt, Millie's, Hinoki, Corsica and Tatte Bakery & Café.
- Retail: Asha, Tuckernuck, Framebridge, Free People Movement, French Presse, La Source, Ma copine, OGGI 5, rhone and Saujette.
- Wellness: Barry's, CST 50, Maison d'Alexandre, StretchLab and YogaSpark.
The developer's construction update dated June 1, 2026 said Tatte had started work, that other businesses would begin their fit-outs that month, and that opening dates would be shared later. One more name is on a later timeline. MiniLuxe announced its first Connecticut studio at the Corbin District in a September release with an opening target of early 2027. Until the businesses post their own dates, the Corbin names are best treated as coming soon. The holiday events above have fixed dates.
One new downtown spot is already open for this season. According to the CT Post, Wonder opened at 306 Post Road, the former Duchess location, on July 16, 2026. Wonder is a few months old, so this is its first holiday season on Post Road.
The season starts with the Nutcracker at the library on November 20 and ends with the tree lighting at Tilley Pond on December 5. In between, every Saturday event and the Friday turkey trot are scheduled around the event next to them.
